Although "Deranged fairytale surf pop" is a compelling option, I'm going to have to say that Abracadabra is Magic. I learned how to play I Eat the Sky on guitar this morning, being driven to do so because it is beautiful and, well, Heavy with heart. ...and, Oh yay! another version of Underworld. So much to dig; it is dug.

If I were in a band like the Golden Gate Wingmen, playing songs from the Grateful Dead catalogue (the greatest songbook in the world) and other forever-glittering specimens of the art of song, like Dylan tunes, solo Beatles picks (Nobody Told Me, Any Road), Zevon, and Van Morrison's Beautiful Vision record, I would also stuff our setlists with songs from Visions of the Higher Dream. And I mean all of them. Not one song would pale in that company. That's how commanding and classic this album is.

Forget 2003, this makes me consider Yorkville in the 1960s. That said, the artwork absolutely does justice to the sound. Yet another beautiful collection of soundful stories that exudes authenticity and heart.
