about

The first Sappyfest happened in 2006. On friday night, August 4th, Eric's Trip played at the nice little Vogue theater, and before we played, there were opening sets by Moonsocket, Julie Doiron, Snailhouse and Me. Syd Barrett had died less than a month earlier on July 7th and i performed a whole set of his songs a week later for a tribute night at the Silver Dollar in Toronto. I enjoyed playing the tunes and since i was still well rehearsed, i decided i would play a similar set for this Sappy performance too.

It was a really nice night with many good friends and my set was nicely recorded by Keltie Harding (thanks Keltie!). You can hear Mark Gaudet sitting out front and singing along with parts and doing some sound effects. I even did Syd's wacky unfinished tune "Let's Split" which was more of an acting performance than musical. Ha. Anyhow, the whole show's a fun listen, i hope you enjoy it and it helps you remember some of that first Sappyfest's magic. It does for me.
