about

Settling into country life and getting used to my newly built recording setup out here, i wrote and recorded a lot of songs throughout most of 2006. About 50 were finished and mixed actually, but a third of those were more specifically done with this albums theme in mind.

My grandmother back home was in the late stages of a deep dementia, i spent some time with her that summer and the idea of losing memory and self really filled my thoughts. I was reflecting back on my own past up to this point as well, what got me here, where, who, and what i am? What memories make me and what is already lost. I painted the cover art before many of the songs were done, it has me sitting with symbolic creatures from my past. Reminiscing together or some type of intervention?

My life had just changed quite dramatically but now i was here, in nature, quite comfortable, really able to let go and explore. I had all the gear set up and ready to go all the time, i could begin recording in a minute if the mood came. Good mics, unlimited tracks and i felt confident in my playing. Got a lot better on the drums throughout 2005-6 too, i felt i really needed too since i didn't have Mark Gaudet to rely on anymore. I was also using an effect again that i started experimenting with during Elevator's "Taste..." album in 1999. Fading in radio signals and bits of reverberated off tuned music and sounds to create a dreamy surreal feeling. My first RickWhiteAlbum in 2005 was more acoustic and folky based, but with this one i wanted a more vivid colourful sound. I think it all worked great on this record and am still very satisfied with the sound and quality of these recordings.

This album was originally released on CD and 12" vinyl on Blue Fog Recordings in 2007. I still hold it as one of my favourite created documents of life. I couldn't say if its my best work or not, but i'm proud of it and i think it gets across what i was feeling. It does for me anyhow and thats who this music is mainly for. Its all just a document, a learning experience, a piece of me, a memory.

Anyhow, here it is.
