After playing a few Toronto shows in 1998 with our friend Dallas Good added to the line up on 2nd guitar, we decided to have him join us on a full tour in May 1999. He came down to our house in Moncton for a week before to rehearse a bunch and hang out. We were touring for the newly released Subpop album "Vague Premonition", and started the tour off with some shows in Quebec and Ontario before heading to the USA for a couple weeks opening for BUILT TO SPILL.

We got payed very little but Subpop sent a rep named Dan Trager along with us who carried a company credit card and could cover the losses. Ha. He was also a soundman and did our live mix each night. Being on this particular tour, we got to play some really nice big venues for a change.

Towards the end of the tour we played two nights at the lovely Irving Plaza in New York city, and in the afternoon of the first date on May 20th, we did this live radio session at WNYU. Dan did the live to air mix which we also recorded onto a DAT. It's a good quality document of the May 1999 "4D" sound we had with Dallas on that tour.

I originally released this session in 2002 on my Great Beyond CDR label as the first half of #010 called "Elevator 4D". The session has been newly remastered from the original tape in 2019.

If I were in a band like the Golden Gate Wingmen, playing songs from the Grateful Dead catalogue (the greatest songbook in the world) and other forever-glittering specimens of the art of song, like Dylan tunes, solo Beatles picks (Nobody Told Me, Any Road), Zevon, and Van Morrison's Beautiful Vision record, I would also stuff our setlists with songs from Visions of the Higher Dream. In the half century since Wings gave us Red Rose Speedway, I don't think the world has been invited to as sumptuous a feast of melody as Daniel Romano's Dandelion. And what beautiful, tender words.
