melton I have to say, ROGER AND THE HAIR is kinda a big deal to me, this kid Kyle in Jr. High was the first person to make me a mixtape, and that was one of the songs that was my favorite. But I picked up Parts 1-3, and listened to it lots. Glad to find a treasure trove here, thank you Favorite track: MARY AND DEATH.

Rikki Tikki Thanks so much Rick for revising this release in 2019 to include the complete "Mary and Death" track. I remember back in 1998 listening to Parts 4/5 thinking what the track excerpts were all about. Now I know. It is awesome. I picture everything in my head as the narration goes on. It would make such an awesome short animated feature. You and Ralph Bakshi should produce it. :) Favorite track: DOUBLE PLEADING.

about

In late 1994, Eric's Trip were in a short break period. Our 2nd album "Forever Again" had just been released but Julie was in the midst of having a baby. My first solo album "Elevator to Hell pt.1+2" was soon to be released as well so i decided to put together a band and do a few local shows.

Tara was playing bass with Ron Bates in a band called ORANGE GLASS at the time and the three of us were playing tunes in our apartment together lots. To change things up from our regular band roles, Tara played guitar, i played bass and Ron played the keyboard. We got Marky from Eric's Trip to play the drums with us a few times and when Ron's folks went away for a week in February, we set up in his basement with the 1/2 inch 8track and tried recording some of the songs we'd been playing together.

So here is the first session recordings of ELEVATOR as a band. Recorded February 4-5 1995 during a snowsorm. Three of the songs from the session, THE WHO, DOUBLE PLEADING, and CLEARLY SEE ME were used for a 7 inch record on Sappy later that year. We couldn't fit this original version of FORWARD TO SNOW on side two so we quickly did a shorter take at the apartment one day before sending the tape off to the pressing plant. This full version is much better though i think. Also recorded at the session but not released till now was our take of another song from the "Elevator to Hell pt.1+2" album, ROGER AND THE HAIR.

The last "song" in this collection was mostly improvised musically. I was working on another comic at the time, like a 2nd edition of the one that subpop released with the "Forever Again" lp. The story was called MARY AND DEATH and i wanted to act it out more like a radio play. The character voices, sound effects and editing were done by me at home after, but the improvised instrumental band stuff was recorded at this session. Short excerpts of this recording were previously heard on the end of each side of the "Elevator to Hell pt.4+5" cassette, but here is the whole nine minute piece from start to finish for the first time.

All songs remastered from original DAT masters in 2019.

RICK WHITE - bass and voice
TARA WHITE - guitar
MARK GAUDET - drums
RON BATES - keys
